Madrid, 12 October 2021 (TDI): Jens Stoltenberg visited Spain’s Capital Madrid on 8 October 2021 ahead of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Summit. The Madrid Summit will be held in Madrid next year from 29 to 30 June.
During his visit to Spain, the NATO Secretary-General met with Pedro Sanchez, the Prime Minister of Spain. He thanked the Spanish Prime Minister for hosting the upcoming NATO Summit. The Madrid Summit will also be special for Spain as it will be celebrating the fortieth anniversary of its membership in NATO.

Secretary-General emphasized Madrid Summit and said important decisions will be taken for the implementation of the NATO 2030 agenda. He also stressed strengthening the alliance, enhancing the cyber defense and technological edge. He underlined the Climate Change issue and its impact on the world.
The NATO Secretary-General further stated that the Madrid Strategic Concept will reaffirm the unity of NATO, ensure the commitments of NATO to its values and examine the new strategic security environment in the world.
Moreover, he expressed his gratitude for the Spanish commitments to NATO. Spain has played an active role in the missions of NATO in Iraq, Latvia, and Baltic Air Policing.
