To explore how they might work together as Team Europe to help Afghan people as the situation in Afghanistan worsens. Afghanistan’s humanitarian and socioeconomic condition is on the brink of catastrophe.

According to the Norwegian Refugee Council, at least one million children face death this winter due to cold and hunger. The Ministers discussed ways to improve the European Union’s support of Afghans, especially in terms of basic services and social resilience. They decided to take a measured approach to provide direct assistance to the Afghans. In order to avoid a humanitarian disaster, but without recognizing the Taliban.

They will provide assistance via their multilateral partners while adhering to the agreed-upon engagement standards. The discussion, according to VP Borell, was extremely valuable and timely. It will be utilized to inform the European Union’s involvement in the Extraordinary G20 Leaders Meeting.
