Rio de Janeiro, 23 February 2024 (TDI): Saudi Foreign Minister, Faisal bin Farhan, addressed the G20 Foreign Ministers meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He emphasized the need for reforming global governance, the importance of the economy, and the restoration of trust in international organizations.

The Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of making global governance more effective through multilateral action. He mentioned that the G20 is a platform that can enhance cooperation and tackle global economic issues.
Furthermore, he reminded participants that the Riyadh Initiative, adopted by G20 leaders during the Saudi Arabian presidency in 2020, dealt with the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) future. He emphasized that a multilateral economy is essential to resist economic fragmentation and trade restrictions.
Foreign Minister discussed asymmetries in the international order. He suggested that vital multilateral institutions must apply international law equally while improving transparency, inclusivity, and representation.
Regarding asymmetries in the international order, he stressed that G20 countries bear responsibility for ending the Gaza disaster. He said that it threatens regional peace, stability, and economic stability.
In his speech, he called for support of a two-state solution and condemned the atrocities committed in the Gaza Strip. He concluded his speech by stressing the importance of international institutions in dealing with the Gaza Strip.
On the sidelines of the G20, the Saudi Foreign Minister met with the US Secretary of State and Foreign Ministers of Egypt, Turkey, and France.

During the meetings, the ministers discussed bilateral relations between countries and ways to enhance relationships. They also discussed regional and international issues, including the developments in the Gaza Strip and its surroundings.
Saudi Ambassador to Brazil, Dr. Faisal Ghulam, and the Assistant Director-General of the Office of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Walid Al-Ismail, also attended the meeting.
