Saudi Forces Chief Meets Pakistani Leadership in First Visit Since Mutual Defense Pact

Islamabad (TDI): General Fayyad bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili, the Chief of General Staff of Saudi Armed Forces, met Pakistan’s Prime Minister and Chief of Army Staff, during his country visit for the first time since both countries signed Mutual Defense Agreement.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed resolve to elevate historic fraternal ties with Saudi Arabia; in all domains, including defense, security and economic cooperation. He conveyed Pakistan’s appreciation for the “unwavering support and solidarity” extended by Saudi Arabia at all times.

He highlighted “the shared resolve of both countries” to combat terrorism and extremism in all its forms and manifestations, and to promote peace and stability in the region. General Al-Ruwaili reiterated the Kingdom’s strong desire to elevate the existing defense and strategic partnership with Pakistan to new heights.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, and Special Assistant to the PM Tariq Fatemi.

Earlier, General Al Rowaili met COAS Asim Munir at General Headquarters (GHQ). Both leaders discussed matters of mutual interest, with a particular focus on strengthening the longstanding and strategic military cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

They emphasized the importance of further enhancing defense collaboration, security cooperation, and counter-terrorism efforts, which continue to be pillars of the deep-rooted bilateral relationship.

Al Rowaili appreciated Pakistan’s cooperation in multiple fields with Saudi Armed Forces and reaffirmed his commitment to furthering the strong bonds of cooperation.

Upon arrival at GHQ, the Saudi Chief laid a floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada and was presented a Guard of Honor by a smartly turned-out contingent of the Pakistan Army.
