Islamabad (TDI): Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, the Honorary Consul General of Yemen in Karachi, and a prominent Pakistani politician, diplomat, businessman, and economist, has been awarded the prestigious Global Ambassador Award.
The award recognizes his decades-long service across diplomacy, trade, governance, and public welfare, marking yet another milestone in his multifaceted career dedicated to national development and international cooperation.
A sitting Member of Pakistan’s National Assembly, Dr. Baig has emerged as a key figure in parliamentary diplomacy, serving as the Convener of the Pakistan–Morocco Parliamentary Friendship Group and contributing actively to the Pak–US, Pak–UK, Pak–Türkiye, and Pak–UAE parliamentary forums.
His recent election to the Board of Directors of Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA) in New York for 2025–26 further cements his stature as a respected global policymaker.
Beyond his legislative role, Dr. Baig is President of the Peoples Business Forum, where he works to strengthen the nexus between business leadership and public policy.
His diplomatic journey includes serving as Pakistan’s Honorary Consul General of Yemen and later as the Dean/President of the Hon. Consular Corps in Sindh, positions through which he advanced bilateral ties and represented Pakistan on international platforms.
His distinguished record has earned him several national honors—including the Sitara-i-Imtiaz and Tamgha-i-Imtiaz, as well as prestigious foreign awards such as Yemen’s Order of Merit.
In 2018, he received the Gusi Peace Prize International, acknowledging his global contributions to peace, economic development, and humanitarian service.
A former Senior Vice President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), he has been recognized with the FPCCI Special Export Merit Award, a Gold Medal from the President of Pakistan, and numerous international honors.
He currently chairs the FPCCI Standing Committee on Banking, Credit & Finance and sits on the National Assembly Standing Committees on Finance & Revenue and Commerce & Economic Affairs.
With a Doctorate in Business Administration, advisory roles in national economic policymaking, and previous leadership at the Make-A-Wish Foundation Pakistan, Dr. Baig continues to exemplify public service rooted in integrity and vision.
