Islamabad (TDI): Pakistan and Iran have renewed their resolve to deepen cooperation across multiple sectors and to work more closely on regional and global matters of shared concern, the Foreign Office said on Tuesday.
The statement followed a meeting in Islamabad between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Dr. Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, who is visiting Pakistan on an official trip.
A day earlier, Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam, described Larijani’s visit as a significant step toward ushering in a new “strategic phase” in the countries’ longstanding relationship. In a post on X, he stressed that robust engagement between the two neighbors was increasingly important amid fast-changing global and regional dynamics.
Larijani himself confirmed the visit in an Urdu-language post on X, recalling Pakistan’s support during the 12-day conflict earlier this year between Iran and Israel. “The Iranian people will never forget that the Pakistani nation stood with us,” he wrote.

He added that both Pakistan and Iran are central to lasting regional security and that Tehran is committed to strengthening its brotherly ties with neighboring states.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to Tehran, Muhammad Mudassir Tipu, also welcomed Larijani’s arrival, saying that the visit reflects ongoing high-level engagement between the two governments. He noted that it would “play a crucial role in further solidifying the historical and deep-rooted ties” between the two nations.

Pakistan had backed Iran at international forums during the June conflict, which began after Israeli airstrikes inside Iran killed senior military officials and nuclear-linked scientists. Iran retaliated with ballistic missile strikes on Israeli targets. Weeks after the confrontation ended, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had played an important role in helping bring about the ceasefire.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian later thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz during a phone call, expressing appreciation for Pakistan’s consistent and principled support.
