New York (TDI): Saudi Arabia announced formation of a new international coalition to promote Palestinian statehood.
Saudi Arabia‘s foreign minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan has announced this during a high-level meeting at the 79th at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
He unveiled the “International Alliance to Implement the Two-State Solution,” which includes Arab and Islamic countries alongside European partners. Specific details about the coalition were not disclosed.
The ongoing conflict in Gaza has reignited discussions about the two-state solution, envisioning peaceful coexistence between Israeli and Palestinian states.
However, analysts caution that achieving this goal seems increasingly unlikely, particularly given the hardline stance of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu‘s government. Netanyahu has already opposed Palestinian statehood.
Saudi Arabia recently paused U.S.-brokered talks aimed at normalizing relations with Israel in light of the Gaza conflict.
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has made it clear that the establishment of an “independent Palestinian state” is a mandatory for any normalization efforts.
A senior official from the Saudi-based Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) stated that the new coalition mainly comprises OIC member states along with several European nations.
