Riyadh, 7 November 2022 (TDI): Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Member of the Council of Ministers, and Envoy for Climate of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Adel Aljubeir met with the European Union (EU) delegation accredited to the Kingdom.

The meeting was part of the second session of the joint dialogue between Saudi Arabia and the EU on Human Rights.

While addressing the meeting, Adel Aljubeir highlighted the efforts of Saudi Arabia to protect and support human rights and its firm stances toward protecting and promoting rights and standing up against violations.

The high officials of the Kingdom including the President of the Human Rights Commission and Patrick Simonnet, the EU Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia also attended the meeting.

Joint Human Rights dialogue session

The second session of the joint human rights dialogue between Saudi Arabia and the EU took place on Friday in Riyadh.

Saudi Human Rights Commission, President Hala Al-Tuwaijri, and EU Special Representative for Human Rights, Eamon Gilmore co-chaired the session.

During the session, Al-Tuwaijri mentioned the measures taken by the Saudi government in combating the trafficking of persons and developments made in the field of women’s rights.

While talking about the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, she said “Emanating from its solid and sublime values, the Kingdom has worked to develop its legislative system by reviewing and issuing many legislations.

The Kingdom is keen on promoting and protecting human rights at all phases.” She mentioned the issue of climate change by saying “The Kingdom is committed to meeting the increasing challenges of climate change.

In this context, Green Saudi Arabia and the Green Middle East initiatives were launched to overcome environmental challenges.”

For his part, Gilmore appreciated the progress made by the Kingdom in the field of human rights. He also praised the successful mediation of the Crown Prince to secure the release of 10 foreign prisoners from Russia.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Head of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Mission to the EU Ambassador, Saad Alarify attended the session along with other Saudi representatives.

Head of the EU Human Rights Department, Luisa Ragher, and several representatives of the missions of the EU countries accredited to the Kingdom were also present.
