Russia helps Syria in rebuilding the Citadel of Aleppo

-

Palmyra, 2 August 2021 (TDI): Syria has begun to rebuild the Citadel of Aleppo and Russia is providing assistance. The Citadel was 20% damaged as a result of several militant attacks. In April 2021, work on restoring the Arc de Triomphe, in Syrian Palmyra, began. In 2015, ISIS militants demolished this ancient site’s cultural richness with an explosion.

Amina Sabuni, the project’s head engineer, stated that the northern and eastern walls received the heaviest damage, with some towers entirely collapsed. Modern materials are being used for the restoration. Furthermore, the head engineer stressed that Russian experts are assisting the Syrian people in reconstructing their main cultural and historical landmarks. The working group includes highly competent Russian specialists such as professional archaeologists, geologists, architects, 3D modeling experts, etc.

Russia has recently strengthened bilateral ties with Muslim countries such as Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Syria to demonstrate its support for the Muslim world. Russia enjoys long-standing relations with Syria, as the Assad regime grants legitimacy to Russian participation. These diplomatic initiatives by Russia will further enhance its ties with Syria in the future.
