ISLAMABAD, (TDI): Speaker of the Federation Council of the Russian Federal Assembly, Valentina Matvienko, expressed Russia’s appreciation for Pakistan as a key player on the international stage.
During a meeting with Speaker of the National Assembly- the lower house of the Pakistan’s bicameral parliament- Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in Islamabad today, she praised Pakistan’s efforts toward global peace.
Ms. Matvienko reaffirmed Russia’s support for Pakistan’s bid to join BRICS and highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts to promote peace and prosperity both regionally and globally.
Speaker Ayaz Sadiq reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to ongoing collaboration with Russia in areas of mutual interest.

He emphasized that parliamentary diplomacy has historically strengthened bilateral relations and advocated for sustained engagement between the two parliaments, facilitated by friendship groups and high-level exchanges to foster mutual learning and shared experiences.
Earlier today Senate- the upper house of the parliament, and the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation have signed Memorandum of Understanding that would further enhance ties between the two countries through parliamentary diplomacy.
The signing of MoU was singed in a meeting between Speaker of the Federation Council, upper chaqmber in Russia, Valentina Matvienko and Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani.

On tis occasion, the two sides noted that Russia and Pakistan enjoy traditionally friendly relations. They stressed active bilateral political dialogue, including at the highest level, and strong inter-parliamentary relations.
Madam Speaker highlighted that Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has made a significant contribution to strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation within the SCO.
