Moscow, 12 September 2022 (TDI): The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia met with the Ambassador of Belarus to the Russian Federation, on Monday to discuss cooperation between the two countries.

The Russian Deputy Minister, A.Yu. Rudenko met with the Belarus Ambassador D.N. Krutoy and talked about the priority issues for further development. During the meeting, both the officials discussed integration through the platform of Union State.

Both representatives had an in-depth discussion regarding strategies for coordinating Belarusian and Russian foreign policy. At the meeting, the states discussed the plans for multi-faceted foreign policy coordination between Belarus and Russia.

Russia and Belarus’ previous meetings

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Russia Dmitry Krutoi met with Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of Russia’s Federal Assembly Yury Vorobyov on 8 September, according to the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the talks, the parties discussed Belarus-Russia cooperation prospects and integration processes within the Union States. Dmitry Krutoi emphasized the special role of parliaments in the legislative support of 28 Union State programs.

More than 400 regulations and bilateral agreements are to be adopted to implement these programs. The parties discussed preparations for the 10th edition of the Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia to be held in Ufa in 2023.

The Belarusian ambassador expressed confidence that both senators will significantly contribute to expanding interregional cooperation. Both states also affirmed their willful involvement in the strengthening of bilateral contacts.

Bilateral Ties between Russia and Belarus

Russia and Belarus share peaceful and friendly bilateral relations. The strategic alliance between Belarus and Russia is based on several factors.

They have shared geographic location, strong historical and cultural ties, as well as economic ties and business collaboration.

Russia is a major trade partner of Belarus and also a major export market. Furthermore, both countries cooperate in areas of energy and energy resources.

Both countries also cooperate in the framework of the Union States. They also, support the strengthening of multilateral cooperation and participate actively in other integration projects in the post-Soviet era.
