Bucharest, 19 May 2023 (TDI): Romania’s Foreign Minister, Bogdan Aurescu, held talks with the Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources, Richard R. Verma, of U.S and Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs, J. Lewis.

The discussions aimed to strengthen the collaboration between the two countries and reinforce their commitment to supporting resilience and security in the region.

The discussions emphasized the importance of regional security in the Black Sea area, both Romania and the United States recognize the need to address security challenges such as territorial disputes, militarization, and aggressive actions by non-regional powers.

Enhancing regional security involves close cooperation with other Black Sea littoral states, such as Ukraine and Moldova, to address common security concerns, strengthen defense capabilities, and promote stability in the region.

The talks have probably touched upon the importance of supporting Ukraine’s security and sovereignty. Ukraine has faced significant challenges, including Russia’s annexation of Crimea and ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine.

The United States and Romania are committed to providing assistance and support to Ukraine, both bilaterally and through multinational efforts, to help Ukraine defend its territorial integrity and build resilience against security threats.

The discussions also addressed the need to support the Republic of Moldova in its efforts to enhance security and stability.
