Islamabad, 19 May 2023 (TDI): Federal Minister Congratulates China’s NDRC Chairman, Affirms Commitment to Belt and Road Initiative and CPEC

Federal Minister for Planning, Development & Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal recently conveyed his congratulations to Zheng Shanjie, the newly-appointed Chairman of China’s National Development & Reform Commission (NDRC).

In a letter, Minister Iqbal expressed his dedication to continuing the successful implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Iqbal emphasized the robust partnership between the NDRC and the Planning Ministry, highlighting their close collaboration in developing the flagship CPEC project, which stands as a pivotal pillar of the economic alliance between China and Pakistan.

Under Iqbal’s leadership as Planning Minister, the current government has breathed new life into stalled CPEC projects, accelerating their progress. His efforts have garnered recognition from Chinese leadership, who bestowed upon him the title of “Mr. CPEC” following his recent visit to China and engagement with Chinese officials.

The completion of the first phase of the CPEC was also hailed by Iqbal, as it has brought about a transformative change in Pakistan’s economic landscape. This milestone has laid a solid foundation for cooperation in industrialization, agriculture, science, and technology, as well as socio-economic development.

Chairman Zheng Shanjie expressed his eagerness to deepen and strengthen cooperation with Minister Iqbal, actively working together to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of both nations.

He commended Iqbal’s unwavering commitment to the success of CPEC, recognizing its game-changing impact on the region. Both parties agreed to further fortify the strategic relations between Pakistan and China.

The upcoming July of 2023 will witness the grand celebrations of CPEC’s 10-year anniversary, an occasion that marks a decade of remarkable achievements. Additionally, plans are underway to schedule the 12th Joint Cooperation Committee meeting, further enhancing the collaboration between the two countries.
