Islamabad, 2 September 2021 (TDI): Asim Iftikhar, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, informed the Pakistani nation of Syed Ali Shah Geelani’s demise during the house arrest in Srinagar, Indian occupied Kashmir.
Syed Geelani was a member of Jamaat-e-Islami Kashmir until 1993. Later he resigned and founded Tehreek-e-Hurriyat. He also served as the chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC). He has inspired three generations of Kashmiris in their strife for the right of self-determination through his utmost efforts.
Pakistan and its people are mourning his demise, and paying him tribute for being the symbol of freedom and resistance against the tyrannical and illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir by India.
