Islamabad, 9 September 2021 (TDI): Qatari Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani to visit Pakistan today. The high-level diplomatic delegation will meet the Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Shah Mehmood Qureshi. Bilateral relationships and the situation in Afghanistan will be discussed during this visit.
The Qatari Foreign Minister will also meet other high ranking officials in Pakistan. The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, Asim Iftikhar, stated that both countries have close and cordial relations based on deep, shared values and, common faith. Qatar has been working closely with Pakistan on US withdrawal from Afghanistan. After the withdrawal, Pakistan and Qatar have been working with the Taliban to provide humanitarian aid to Kabul. Both countries have also worked closely to facilitate negotiations between the US and militant groups.
The visit comes a week after PM Imran Khan held a telephonic conversation with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hammad Al Thani. Both leaders discussed bilateral relations, including Qatar’s pandemic aid, the developing situation in Afghanistan.
