Geneva, 11 July 2023 (TDI): Qatar called on the international community to work towards ending the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories. The Gulf state strongly condemns the recent Israeli assault on the Jenin camp in the occupied West Bank.

The statement came during an interactive dialogue with the UN Special Rapporteur on July 10 during the 53rd Regular Session of the Human Rights Council, attended by Qatar’s envoy to the United Nations in Geneva, Hend Al-Muftah.

The discussions were centred on the human rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territories since 1967.

Qatar denounces Israeli aggression against Palestine

Qatar highlighted that the recent surge in Israeli violence targeting defenceless civilians is a flagrant violation of international law, relevant UN resolutions, and the Geneva Conventions.

Furthermore, the Qatari Representative emphasized that Israel’s aggressive policies would exacerbate the situation and heighten the risk of violence. These incidents would threaten the chances of the formation of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, she added.

She stressed the need for the global community to play a crucial role in ending the Israeli blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip. The Qatari Representative also denounced the torture and ill-treatment of Palestinian detainees and prisoners, especially the children, in the Israeli concentration camps.

She called on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities by condemning the Israeli attacks and violations.

Moreover, she said that the international community must take decisive actions to safeguard the Palestinian population and ensure accountability for those responsible for the violations and crimes against them.

Hend Al Muftah reaffirmed the unequivocal position of the State of Qatar to support the Palestinian people until they regain their full legitimate rights, including their inherent right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent and fully sovereign state along the borders of June 1967.

She mentioned that the recent Jenin assault had resulted in the displacement of many Palestinian families and the killing of innocent children.

Twelve Palestinians, including four teenage children, were killed during the two-day Israeli incursion in the occupied West Bank last week.
