Qatar attends the Somalia Security Conference

New York City, 14 December 2023(TDI): Qatar’s Special Envoy for Foreign Affairs, Faisal bin Abdullah Al Hanzab, represented Qatar at the Somalia Security Conference, which took place at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

Following the Somalia Security Conference in New York, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud met with Faisal bin Abdullah Al Hanzab and discussed bilateral cooperation relations during the meeting.

Furthermore, the Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs stated Qatar’s interest in providing political and diplomatic support to the Somali government in order to attain complete stability.

He also emphasized the importance of peaceful resolution of disagreements in order to meet the Somali people’s desires for safety, stability, and growth.

Prior to the conference, the Minister of Foreign Affairs’ Special Envoy, Faisal bin Abdullah Al Hanzab, indicated that Qatar would help Somalia’s institutions, security, stability, and building state activities.

Furthermore, Qatar is pledged to help Somalia combat extremism and terrorism, arguing that a timely overhaul of the security sector would help in reducing existing gaps and providing successful solutions to current issues.

He went on to say that the State of Qatar is pleased about its strong and vital connection with the Federal Republic of Somalia, underscoring how the State of Qatar made contributions to development initiatives in Somalia and offered aid in partnership with its partners around the world.

President Hassan Sheikh stated, “Today I delivered a keynote address to the United Nations in New York at the Somalia security conference.

“I reiterated Somalia’s strategy to mobilize support and sustain our courageous fight against terrorism, the progress of our security sector reforms, and the need for our partners to continue to stand with us.”

The Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs in Qatar stated contentment regarding the Somali government’s growth in the defense sector, especially its successful execution of the national security framework along with efficient execution of counter-terrorism initiatives.

Faisal bin Abdullah al Hanzab concluded by highlighting the importance of equipping the Somali government with crucial tools and equipment before the African Transition Mission’s removal, as well as establishing a timeline, programs, and initiatives for a smooth transition and continued progress.
