London, 4 December 2021 (TDI): The Governor of Punjab, Pakistan, Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar officially met Speaker of British Parliament, Lindsay Hoyle in London. The two officials discussed the bilateral relations of Pakistan and the United Kingdom.
They highlighted various aspects of regional security with a primary focus on the situation of Afghanistan. While speaking on the occasion, the Governor mentioned the state of chaos in Afghanistan and the ongoing humanitarian crisis as well as the deteriorating economy.
It is worth mentioning that the two states have maintained bilateral ties after the Brexit and also play an active role in promoting regional peace and global security.
The Punjab Governor, during the meeting, mentioned that the foreign policy of Pakistan attaches utmost importance to regional peace and security, to maintain and secure territorial sovereignty and establish cordial relations with neighboring states.
He also urged the Afghan government to play an inclusive role in the political sphere to protect the humanity and entire system. Moreover, ‘Pakistan’s role in the Afghan peace process and continuous efforts of Pakistan in promoting peace and stability in Afghanistan during the pre-withdrawal and post-withdrawal period of foreign troops, is noteworthy.
Being an important regional state and a neighboring country, he further spoke, Afghanistan has always got support from Pakistan both on conventional and unconventional grounds.
Speaker of British Parliament, Lindsay Hoyle said that the United Kingdom is also making efforts to find pathways for a stable and peaceful Afghanistan. He further added that his country is also raising concerns over the humanitarian crisis, refugee issues, and deterioration of the economy of Afghanistan.
The UK is working at various international forums to have a collective and responsible response towards the ongoing havoc in Afghanistan. Speaker Hoyle praised Pakistan’s efforts to establish peace and eradicate terrorism in the region.
Additionally, both officials discussed the prospects of multidimensional diplomacy and its necessity in present times. The two sides hoped to extend bilateral ties to further the relations on economic, political, and diplomatic grounds; to combat the existing challenges of the time with mutual support.
