Professor Li Xiguang Honored with Global Ambassador Award

Islamabad (TDI): Professor Li Xiguang, Director Tsinghua University International Center for Communication, has been honoured with the prestigious Global Ambassador Award 2024 in recognition of his outstanding contribution towards building Pakistan-China academic collaboration.

Professor Li Xiguang, who also served as Director Tsinghua University Center for Pakistan Culture and Communication Studies, and UNESCO-UNAOC UNITWIN Global Chair on Media and Information Literacy and Intercultural Dialogue, has worked tirelessly to promote education in Pakistan.

In the ceremony, organized by The Diplomatic Insight, a global public diplomacy institution in Pakistan, Prof. Dr. Ghani Ur Rehman received the award on behalf of Prof Li.

The 6th Global Ambassador Awards Ceremony 2024 took place in Islamabad, with the presence of Ambassadors, diplomatic corps, Parliamentarians, government officials, business leaders, academics, media, and civil society members.

Rana Ihsaan Afzal Khan, Coordinator to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, graced the occasion as the chief guest.

Dr. Farhat Asif, Chairperson of the Diplomatic Insight Group, welcomed distinguished guests and underscored the organization’s commitment to promoting global collaboration and diplomacy.

Professor Li Xiguang, a leading scholar in global communication and cultural diplomacy, currently serves as the Director of Tsinghua University’s International Center for Communication and the Center for Pakistan Culture and Communication Studies.

With over three decades of academic and professional excellence, he is renowned for his work in fostering cross-cultural understanding, particularly between China and Pakistan.

His academic contributions are extensive, holding roles such as a member of the Chinese Foreign Ministry’s Advisory Committee on Public Diplomacy and as a Chief Expert for projects funded by the National Social Science Foundation.

As the UNESCO-UNAOC Global Chair on Media and Information Literacy and Intercultural Dialogue, Professor Li has championed media and intercultural literacy initiatives worldwide.

Professor Li’s scholarly achievements include over 200 research publications and authorship of 30 books.

He has supervised over 40 Ph.D. and 100 master’s students, guiding emerging scholars, including several from Pakistan.

His unique curriculum at Tsinghua University includes courses focused on Pakistan and Silk Road studies, which reflect his commitment to documenting and preserving shared cultural heritage.

Professor Li’s efforts to deepen China-Pakistan relations are evident in initiatives such as the 2023 Gandhara Art Exhibition in Beijing, which drew over three million online viewers, and collaborative studies of the ancient pilgrimage routes in Pakistan.

His partnership with Pakistani scholars led to the publication of the landmark book Inter-civilizational Dialogues across Karakorum, which explores historical and cultural exchanges across the region.

He has organized numerous joint expeditions, conferences, and cultural diplomacy events to highlight Gandhara heritage and ancient Silk Road connections.

His collaboration with institutions like Quaid-i-Azam University and the Taxila Institute has further strengthened academic and cultural ties between the two nations.

Professor Li’s dedication to international collaboration has been recognized with prestigious honors, including the Quaid-i-Azam Award from Pakistan and the UNAIDS Award for his contributions to health communication in China.

His ongoing work continues to build bridges of understanding, solidifying the cultural and academic links between China and Pakistan.
