Prime Minister Bangladesh to attend 77TH UNGA

New York, 20 September 2022 (TDI): The Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina will attend the 77th United Nations General Assembly(UNGA) session in New York from 20-23 September.

Sheikh Hasina arrived in New York on Monday night in the United States to attend the 77th session of the UNGA.

The Prime Minister of Bangladesh was received at the airport by Muhammad Imran, the Bangladesh ambassador-designate to Washington, and Muhammad Abdul Muhith, Bangladesh’s permanent representative to the UN.

She departed from London for New York after attending Queen Elizabeth II’s State funeral. Sheikh Hasina will engage with leaders outside of the UNGA while she is in New York and attend a few significant events.

Meetings of Bangladesh’s Prime Minister

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has commitments on September 20 that includes the reception that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will host.

She will also attend the 77th UNGA debate’s opening session, the reception that US President Joe Biden will hold. Along with that, she will attend an event called the UNGA Platform of Women Leaders.

She will meet with Borut Pahor, the president of Slovenia, and Filippo Grandi, the high commissioner for refugees, on the same day.

On September 21, the Prime Minister will attend the Global Crisis Response Group Champions’ Meeting. It is a high-level event on sustainable housing that will be co-hosted by Bangladesh, Botswana, the Slovak Republic, and UN-Habitat.

Further, Bangladesh’s Prime Minister will also launch a photo exhibition on Padma Bridge at the UN headquarters.

On the same day, she will hold separate bilateral discussions with the presidents of Ecuador and Kosovo, Vjosa Lasso Mendoza and Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu.

The US-Bangladesh Joint Business Council has invited the Bangladesh Prime Minister to participate in a high-level event on the Rohingya crisis. It is a breakfast meeting on antimicrobial resistance, and a high-level policy roundtable on September 22.

On September 23, the Prime Minister will deliver her address at the 77th UNGA general debate. Along with that, she will join a civic reception accorded to her by the expatriate Bangladeshis on September 24.
