Phnom Penh, 21 October 2022 (TDI): President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, Jose Ramos-Horta along with a high-level delegation arrived for a state visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia on 19 October 2022 till 21 October 2022.
President Ramos-Horta along with his delegation met Prime Minister of Cambodia Hun Sen at Peace Palace, Phnom Penh in a bilateral summit meeting to discuss bilateral ties and relations between both countries on 20 October 2022.
Bilateral Agreements
Both countries have signed two documents to strengthen their bilateral cooperation in the areas of air service and trade.
The Air Service agreement between Cambodia and Timor-Leste was signed by Cambodia’s Minister in charge of the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation, Mao Havannall, and Timor-Leste’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Dr. Adaljiza Albertina Xavier Reis Magno.
The agreement was signed to expand cooperation between both countries through direct flight establishment and trade promotion.
The second document signed was the MOU on the Rice trade between Cambodia and Timor-Leste. It was signed by the Minister of Commerce of Cambodia, Pan Sorasak, and the Foreign Minister of Timor-Leste.
Both agreements were signed under the witness of the President of Timor-Leste and the Prime Minister of Cambodia.

President Ramos-Horta thanked the Prime Minister of Cambodia for their medical assistance to Timor-Leste during COVID-19 and support to Timor-Leste’s application for ASEAN membership.
Prime Minister Hun Sen welcomed the step toward direct flight establishment between the two countries and encouraged investors from both countries to invest in rice storage and milling.
He further said these agreements will boost trade ties and open new opportunities between both countries.
Meeting with other state officials
President Ramos-Horta also met with Cambodian Senate President, Samdech Vibol Sena Pheakdei Say Chhum during his visit and discussed the relationship between both countries and cooperation in the field of trade, economy, and investment between both the countries on October 20, 2022.
Moreover, the President of Timor-Leste expressed his gratitude to Cambodia for their support for Timor-Leste’s inclusion in ASEAN as a member state. President Ramos-Horta invited the Cambodian Senate President to visit Timor-Leste soon.
Both leaders committed to strengthening and deepening friendly relations and cooperation between both countries.
A high-level delegation of Timor-Leste led by the President of Ramos-Horta also visited the Royal Palace and met the King of Cambodia, Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni.
President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, Samdech Vibol Sena Pheakdei Say Chhum also made a courtesy call to the visiting delegation and met at National Assembly Palace in Phnom Penh. Both countries discussed bilateral cooperation.
The President of Cambodia’s National Assembly reaffirmed Cambodia’s full support for Timor-Leste to become the 11th member of ASEAN and member of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA).
In reply, President José Manuel Ramos-Horta congratulate Cambodia on its rapid development and thanked Cambodia for its support for Timor-Leste membership in ASEAN and AIPA.
