Minsk, 9 April 2022 (TDI): Pakistan’s Ambassador to Belarus, Sajjad Haider Khan, met with the President of the Republic of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, in the Presidential Palace on Friday. The Belarusian Foreign Minister, Vladimir Makei, was also present at the meeting.

In the meeting, the two sides assessed the current state of bilateral ties and the prospects for future collaboration, notably in the economic domains.
The President stressed the importance of expanding cooperation with Pakistan to enhance the partnership, expressed his satisfaction with setting up a joint venture to manufacture tractors in Pakistan, and expressed his willingness to diversify the economic contents of cooperation.
The President also conveyed the Belarusian perspectives on the Ukraine conflict. He reaffirmed Russia’s significance as an ally and reputable partner and emphasized the importance of achieving a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
While underlining Pakistan’s strong relations with Belarus, the Ambassador highlighted bilateral trade statistics for 2021, which totaled 92.6million USD, an increase of more than 77 percent over 2020. He emphasized the need for continuing trade promotion activities amidst global and regional obstacles.
The Ambassador encouraged the Belarusian industry, notably agricultural machinery and milk processing sectors, to profit from the investment potential by highlighting Pakistan’s assets as a vast market with over 220 million consumers and its geo-strategic position.
Pakistan-Belarus relations:
Belarus and Pakistan also have good economic relations. The two countries have established joint ventures in the textile, pharmaceutical, and lighting solution industries while exchanging technological knowledge. Belarus has praised Pakistan’s role and efforts in ensuring international peace and stability by combating terrorism and has pledged his country’s complete assistance in this struggle.
The Ambassador also met a delegation of businesspersons in the Pakistan embassy in Belarus on Thursday.
