President of Azerbaijan visited Moscow

Moscow, 23 July 2021 (TDI)  President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has arrived in Russia on a working visit at the invitation of President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin. Both sides reiterated their strong diplomatic ties. Next year Russia and Azerbaijan will celebrate 30 years of diplomatic ties.  President Putin praised the Azerbaijan President’s farsightedness in resolving and finding a compromise to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. President Putin stressed that the issue of the Nagorno-Karabakh is one of the most important regional conflicts that required settlement.

Since 1991, both Azerbaijan and Armenia are in conflict over the occupied Nagorno-Karabakh region, an internationally recognized part of Azerbaijan. Recently new clashes occurred between the two countries in September and ended with Russian brokered cease-fire. During this war, Azerbaijan liberated its lands from Armenia’s three-decade occupation.
