Both sides reiterated their strong diplomatic ties. Next year Russia and Azerbaijan will celebrate 30 years of diplomatic ties. President Putin praised the Azerbaijan President’s farsightedness in resolving and finding a compromise to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. President Putin stressed that the issue of the Nagorno-Karabakh is one of the most important regional conflicts that required settlement.
Since 1991, both Azerbaijan and Armenia are in conflict over the occupied Nagorno-Karabakh region, an internationally recognized part of Azerbaijan. Recently new clashes occurred between the two countries in September and ended with Russian brokered cease-fire. During this war, Azerbaijan liberated its lands from Armenia’s three-decade occupation.
