President Biden, Prime Minister Netanyahu discuss Gaza Crisis

Washington, 5 April 2024 (TDI): President Biden spoke with Prime Minister Netanyahu on Thursday to address the Gaza crisis and take measurable steps to protect civilians and provide humanitarian aid.

President Biden spoke with his counterpart after an Israel attack on World Central Kitchen when they were serving as a relief worker in Gaza.

President Biden said, “Today, I spoke with Prime Minister Netanyahu to emphasize that strikes on aid workers and the humanitarian situation in Gaza are unacceptable. Israel must implement steps to address civilian harm and the safety of workers and work toward a ceasefire to bring hostages home,” he added.

Furthermore, he said, “US policy with respect to Gaza will be determined by our assessment of Israel’s immediate action on these steps”.

According to sources, Biden said to open the Ashdod port for the immediate delivery of aid in Gaza. Secondly, open the Erez crossing for a new path to provide assistance to Palestinians.

And, especially the expansion of humanitarian assistance from Jordan directly to Gaza. He said, “that must be fully and rapidly implemented”.

Spokesman Kirby said the US government is working on coordination with the Israel, Egypt, and Jordan governments.

Moreover, he said, Biden urges the UN and humanitarian organizations to enforce substantial steps to expand humanitarian assistance.

Additionally, he said, “Civilians need immediate humanitarian aid so, organizations provide immediate aid to civilians throughout Gaza over the coming days and weeks”.

Lastly, Kirby said, “I am not going to preview any potential policy decisions coming forward. What we want to see are some real changes on the Israeli side. And if we don’t see changes from their side, there’ll have to be changes from our side”.

President Biden and His counterpart talked about the Iranian threats. Biden said, “The US has strongly supported Israel in the face of those threats”.

Moreover, sources said, “Biden’s government has denied convicting an Israeli air raid on the Iran embassy In Damascus”.

According to the White House, Biden committed to help Israel against possible Iranian retaliation.

Spokesman Kirby said, “We are still supporting Israel’s ability to defend itself against this still-viable threat” and “that’s going to continue”.

Further, he said on Thursday, “The US still has a defensible commitment to commitment to help Israel with its self-defense”.
