Poland Independence Day: countries congratulate

Baku, 14 November 2021 (TDI): Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Ukraine, Pakistan, and other countries congratulated Poland for their Independence Day, on 11 November. The countries extended their congratulations via Twitter. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan expressed its best wishes to the Polish citizens.

AZERBAIJAN AND POLAND

Azerbaijan and Poland established relations in 1992, but it was until 1997 that they developed extensive diplomatic contact. This happened after Poland recognized Azerbaijan’s independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.

UKRAINE AND POLAND 

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine also joined to congratulate Poland and to express their best wishes towards the citizens and the Government. Ukraine also remarked that their partnership with Poland is based on their common values.

Then they also mentioned that the Lublin Dialogue and other formats will strengthen the Ukraine-Poland partnership. This aims to improve regional security, and prosperity between Ukraine and Poland.

The Ukraine-Poland relations revived after Ukraine achieved independence in 1990. Poland is a key economic partner to Ukraine, Dmytro Solomchuk, a Ukrainian deputy remarked that Ukraine is a reliable partner to Poland.

PAKISTAN, AZERBAIJAN, AND POLAND 

Pakistan also congratulated Poland on its independence day, along with the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Warsaw. The Embassy extended their best wishes to Poland and mentioned that they pay homage to Polish veterans that gave sacrifices to achieve independence.

CURRENT STATE OF DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS

Currently, Poland does not have an embassy or consulate in Afghanistan, their relations date back to 1928 when King Amanullah Khan visited Poland. Poland evacuated its diplomatic officers due to the Taliban takeover. Pakistan-Poland relations were established in 1962, and also Poland supports the inclusion of Pakistan in the GSP+ program.

Poland expressed their support to Azerbaijan regarding the conflict that took place in Nagorno-Karabakh. The country also was a strong supporter of a peaceful settlement between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Poland declared its independence from the Soviet Union on 11 November 1918, through an armistice signed after World War I.
