PM Vows Affordable Sugar, Action Against Tax Evaders

Islamabad (TDI) Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday said that the digitalization of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) will result in benefitting national treasury by billions of rupees.

He was chairing a review meeting in Lahore today on measures to improve revenue collection.

The PM said that improving the performance of Federal Board of Revenue through use of technology is the government’s top priority.

During the meeting, the PM was briefed on the installation and monitoring of video analytics in the sugar industry.

He directed strict actions regarding the implementation of the strategy for revenue collection, adding that installation of video analytics in the sugar industry will significantly improve revenue collection.

He said it will also eliminate hoarding, and help stabilize prices. He directed strict implementation of the strategy devised for revenue collection.

Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the government’s strong commitment for ensuring the availability of sugar to the public at affordable rates. He said that the initiatives taken for the digitization of the FBR will save the national treasury amounting to billions of rupees.

The Prime Minister asked for early completion of the FBR value chain’s full digitization. He said that tax evaders be brought into the tax net and warned of strict action against non-compliance.

Shehbaz Sharif also directed the early completion of video analytics in the cement and tobacco industries.
