PM Joins COP29 Opening Session

Baku (TDI): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has arrived  for participation in the inaugural ceremony of the Climate Action Summit of COP-29 in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Upon his arrival at the venue, he was warmly received by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

He attended the inaugural ceremony besides participation in family photo session at the summit, wherein the President of Azerbaijan and the UN secretary General addressed the event.

On the occasion, he interacted with global leaders including the British prime minister and the president of Kazakhstan and discussed bilateral ties and regional connectivity.

The Prime Minister will also host Climate Finance Roundtable Conference, which will be attended by multiple global leaders.

He will highlight the challenges faced by developing countries, particularly Pakistan, which contribute the least to the emission of harmful and polluting gases yet are severely affected by the adverse impacts of climate change rendering losses every year due to disasters

He will plead for tens of thousands Pakistanis who were affected by floods. He would highlight as how Pakistan is tackling climate change along with its economic challenges.

He will stress that the developed countries should accept responsibilities for the climate change and provide assistance to developing nations for its tackling.

The Prime Minister will participate in a high-level event “Glaciers 2025: Actions for Glaciers” organized by Tajik President for the protection of glaciers.

Shehbaz Sharif will also hold separate meetings with the Prime Ministers of Denmark and the Czech Republic, who are attending COP-29.

In these meetings, discussions will focus on the promotion of bilateral relations. The Prime Minister will also shed light on the climate change-related risks faced by Pakistan.
