Istanbul, 18 August 2021 (TDI): On Sunday, President Arif Alvi attended the inauguration ceremony of the first ship of Pakistan’s MILGEM Project — Turkey’s warship initiative — in Istanbul.

President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan along with President Alvi attended the launch ceremony of Pakistan’s MILGEM corvette Project and the first steel cutting of offshore patrol ship project.

In 2018, Pakistan Navy signed a contract for the investment of four MILGEM Projects.

While addressing the ceremony, President Erdogan expressed his pleasure to host Pakistan at the inauguration ceremony. During his speech, President Erdogan stressed developing a partnership with Pakistan stating that “We want our strong relations with Pakistan and the cooperation between the two countries in the defense industry to reflect on our trade relations as well.”

The installment of MILGEM corvettes in the Pakistan navy will enhance the country’s deterrence capabilities and maritime defense.

Regarding establishing peace and prosperity in South Asia, President Erdogan said that this can only be achieved with Pakistan’s support.
