Islamabad, 27 November 2021 (TDI): The International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INIL) team had an online meeting with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime UNODC, at the US Embassy in Islamabad.

The meeting was arranged to address the issue of health and safety as well as discuss the drug demand reduction project. This is a broad project that covers various aspects such as health, countering Narcotics in Pakistan, reduction in the demand for drugs, and also building capacities that ensure effective treatment.

The US Embassy in Islamabad has been collaborating with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime to stop the use of drugs in Pakistan. The funding for this project is $264,700. The goal is to improve the capacity that will ensure a standardized treatment and prevent drug use disorders.

The motive is to dig deep into the treatment of people that are addicted to drugs and then to provide evidence of them getting better. The UNODC is trying to come up with an effective quality treatment that would help reduce drug disorders in patients.

Moreover, it is working to arrange seminars and create a report that would help in ensuring quality treatment. The UNODC has arranged many seminars and webinars to reduce the amount of drug usage among youth and the targeted population. They believe the best way to limit the use of drugs and counter the reduction is by arranging dialogues and holding interventions among common stakeholders.

This program will ensure the social protection of the general public and youth. Arranging conferences to educate the youth about the disastrous effects of drug usage, is important. Spreading awareness on such social issues is important as it would help protect the youth of Pakistan from getting involved in such activities.

Both the United States of America and Pakistan are trying to fight the social evils of drugs. The government of Pakistan is also contributing to the project to ensure the health security of the nation and to protect its youth.
