Washington DC, 26 August 2022 (TDI): Pakistan’s Ambassador to the US, Masood Khan held bilateral talks with Congressman Gregory Weldon Meeks on Thursday. The Congressman is also the Chair of the House Committee on US Foreign Affairs and a key US lawmaker.

The two sides discussed Pakistan and US parliamentary exchanges. Moreover, they also discussed strengthening cooperation in the fields of security and the economy.
Remarks by Congressman Gregory
The Chair of the House Committee conveyed his deepest sympathies to the government and the people of Pakistan over the devastation caused by the recent floods.
Moreover, he offered condolences over the loss of life resulting from the unprecedented monsoon rains across the country.

Consequently, the Congressman highlighted that these are the adverse effects of erratic climate change. Therefore, he emphasized that collaborations to address climate change should be strengthened.
Congressman Meeks also appreciated Pakistan’s commendable role in helping the US with safe evacuations from Afghanistan.

Ambassador Masood Khan expressed his gratitude to Chairman Meeks for expressing solidarity with the flood victims. He highlighted the ways the country was trying to deal with this natural catastrophe.

Financial Assistance by the US
Earlier this month, the US Secretary of State, Antony J. Blinken announced $1 million to build resilience against natural disasters. Additionally, USAID announced $1 Million in aid for the victims of floods in Pakistan.
The aid was announced by the Ambassador of the US to Pakistan, David Blome during his visit to Karachi.

Pakistan and US Relations
Pakistan and the United States have enjoyed 75 years of good bilateral relations. Both countries enjoy good relations in trade, investment, and people-to-people exchanges.
Pakistan and the US cooperate in several domains like trade, education, energy, and culture. Moreover, the US has always stood by Pakistan’s side during its challenging times.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the US provided Pakistan with $77 million worth of vaccines. Both countries also affirm seeking more cooperation opportunities to strengthen their relations in the future.

Ambassador Rashad Hussain is an ardent supporter of interfaith harmony and dialogue. Additionally, he is the first Muslim to be nominated by the Biden Administration as the Ambassador-at-Large for USIRF.
