Islamabad, 6 January 2022 (TDI): On 5 January 2022, the Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Chaudhry Fawad Hussain officially met with British High Commissioner, Christian Turner in Islamabad.
The meeting between the two officials covered the matters pertaining to media, pandemic and its different shades, and the policies to promote bilateral cooperation through trade and investment.
While talking to British High Commissioner, Fawad Chaudhry underlined the significance of the interconnectedness of states in an era of globalization and urged to promote trade to boost investments between Pakistan and the United Kingdom.
The Minister emphasized the fact that the increase in investment will further bilateral ties between the two states, and the exchange of trade delegations will pave the way for trade cooperation and polish the existing patterns of collaboration.
While mentioning the outbreak of the global pandemic, he highlighted the successful handling of the epidemic and the implementation of effective strategies by the incumbent government to combat the multiple waves of the pandemic.
He further added that the situation in Pakistan during the Covid-19 pandemic was relatively better as compared to the rest of the world as the incumbent government has achieved the desired target of vaccination against the virus.
Fawad Chaudhry also elaborated on the fast-moving trends of fake news emerging from the excessive use of technology and its immense effect on the population during the Covid-19 period.
He urged the international community to counter the threatening phenomenon through effective channels. He mentioned the efforts of the government in the media industry to combat the prevailing menace and to revive the cultural traditions through films and dramas.
The British High Commissioner lauded the efforts of the current government on social, political, and cultural grounds during the pandemic period. The Minister also talked about the new strategies of the current government to deal with the new wave of Covid variant of Omicron and its wider impact on the international stage.
While the British High Commissioner assured the Minister of full support for promoting bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and the UK.
Both officials agreed to make documentaries on Pakistan’s Diamond Jubilee (75th-anniversary celebrations) and Lord Mountbatten. The documentary will be jointly be produced by PTV and the BBC that will further cultural cooperation.
