Washington DC, 15 October 2022 (TDI): At the 2022 Embassy Chef Challenge, Pakistan came in second place for the People’s Choice Award in International Chef Challenge 2022. The event was hosted at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington DC.

It was part of the 2022 Events The DC International City Food Festival to celebrate cuisine, culture, and entertainment while showcasing the diverse communities in the nation’s capital.

Pakistan’s street food, including samosa, chicken tikka, Ghulab Jaman, Firni, and Karak Chai, was presented to Food Critics and Washingtonians. At the event, Shinwari Restaurant’s Executive Chef Muhammad Asghar represented the Embassy.

Ambassador Masood Khan, the Ambassador of Pakistan to the US said “This is the third time that Pakistan has joined the Embassy’s Chef Challenge and it’s a great opportunity to celebrate our cuisine, bridge cultural differences, and foster international understanding as well as showcase Pakistani products.”

“Winning a place among the top three People’s Choice Awards depicts our cuisine’s strong international appeal to international palates and we hope to bring our culinary diplomacy to even greater heights,” the Ambassador added.

The Embassy Chef Challenge, one of Washington’s premier international culinary events, gathered together chefs from various embassies to produce cuisine particular to their countries and compete for the Judges’ Choice and People’s Choice Awards.

After a cuisine sampling, event attendees chose the winner in the latter category.
A long-running, friendly competition between Embassy chefs from all over the world, the Embassy Chef Challenge was first announced in 2009 by Culture Tourism DC.

During the event, participating Embassies presented the distinctive flavors of their home nations in a delectable, diplomatic culinary competition.

The 2022 Challenge provided Washingtonians with an international immersive gastronomic experience, with more than 40 Embassies in attendance.

The Cultural Section of the Embassy, under the direction of Maliha Shahid, Press & Culture Attaché, & Hassan Rabbani, Head of Chancery, coordinated the involvement of the Embassy with assistance from regional sponsors including National Foods & Savera Works.
