Islamabad, 29 September 2023 (TDI): In a statement, Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said that Pakistan welcomes efforts for peace in Yemen, on September 28.
Pakistan applauded the success of the talks between representatives of Yemen, the Sultanate of Oman, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The talks took place in Riyadh from September 14 to September 18, 2023, with the goal of establishing a roadmap for the peace process in Yemen.
The government of Yemen and Houthi rebels are engaged in an eight-year civil conflict that has claimed thousands of lives and created a serious humanitarian catastrophe.
The Saudi communication and coordination team had a peace conversation with a group from Sana’a, the capital of Yemen, in which an Omani delegation also took part.
A timetable for the withdrawal of Foreign Forces from Yemen, as well as the complete reopening of ports and the airport in Sanaa under Houthi control, constitutes the focal point of the negotiations.
A deal would enable the United Nations to relaunch a more extensive political peace process.
Pakistan also praise the Saudi move to have talks with the delegation from Sana’a and the Saudi Defence Minister.
It also encouraged the Yemeni parties to engage in dialogue to find a comprehensive, long-lasting, and amicable political solution, under the auspices of the UN, guided by King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.
