Islamabad, 18 October 2023 (TDI): Pakistan has strongly condemned the Israeli attack on Al-Ahly Al-Mamadany hospital in Gaza resulting in hundreds of casualties, on October 17.

Attacking a hospital where people were looking for refuge and urgent care, according to Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, is cruel and unjustifiable.

According to her, deliberately targeting civilian infrastructures and populations constitutes war crimes, which is a serious violation of international law.

The spokesman urged the international community to act quickly to put a stop to Israel’s siege and bombing of Gaza as well as the impunity with which Israeli authorities have been acting in recent days.

Chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari condemned Israel over the lethal air raid on the hospital in Gaza.

“Today’s savage attack by Israeli Occupation Forces on Baptist hospital in central Gaza is an egregious violation of international humanitarian and human rights law, specifically the Geneva Convention,” he stated.

Moreover, he stated that, “It’s a morally reprehensible crime which violates the principles of humanity and the laws of war by attacking unarmed civilians, sick and wounded including children needing care at a protected medical facility.”

According to Bilawal, “Warrants not just the condemnation in strongest terms across the board but accountability through international legal mechanisms for these war crimes.”

“UN and its member states must act towards immediate cessation of hostilities, operationalization of humanitarian corridor for safe passage of civilians and allowing humanitarian aid”, he added

Earlier, the Health Ministry in the Gaza Strip confirmed that at least 500 innocent Palestinian civilians, including women and children, were martyred in a brutal Israeli airstrike on al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City.

Amidst the ongoing Israeli bombardment that was targeting commercial buildings, schools, homes, and civilian residences, the hospital, serving as a refuge for thousands in need of medical treatment and shelter, was struck. Gaza’s Hamas government termed this incident as a “war crime.”

The hospital was destroyed, housing individuals who had been forcibly removed from their homes as a result of Israeli bombings.

Pediatrics department chief at Kamal Adwan Hospital, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, condemned the attack and declared it “unconscionable.”
