Jeddah (TDI): Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have taken a significant step toward strengthening bilateral ties with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Overseas Employment Corporation (OEC), a body of the government of Pakistan, and Andalusia Arabia for Medical Services, a Saudi healthcare recruitment entity.
The agreement was formalized on behalf of the OEC by Syed Mustafa Rabbani, Consul General of Pakistan in Jeddah, marking a new chapter in institutional cooperation between the two countries in the healthcare sector.
Under the terms of the MoU, a structured framework will be established to facilitate the recruitment and placement of qualified Pakistani physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals across various healthcare institutions in Saudi Arabia.
The initiative is expected to open new employment avenues for Pakistan’s medical workforce, which has long been recognized for its skill and professionalism in international markets.

Officials described the agreement as a landmark development that reflects the enduring and fraternal relationship shared by Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
Beyond its immediate economic benefits, the MoU is seen as a mechanism to deepen institutional collaboration between the two countries’ healthcare and labor sectors, potentially serving as a template for similar agreements in other professional fields.
The recruitment drive is also expected to yield tangible economic benefits for Pakistan as Pakistani healthcare professionals take up positions in Saudi Arabia, and the resulting remittances contribute meaningfully to the country’s foreign exchange reserves.
Overseas employment has historically been a vital source of foreign currency inflows for Pakistan, and formal government-to-institution agreements such as this one are viewed as a more structured and reliable channel compared to informal recruitment practices.

The OEC, which operates under Pakistan’s Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, has been actively pursuing similar partnerships with employers across the Gulf region in recent years, aiming to ensure transparent, regulated, and dignified employment pathways for Pakistani workers abroad.
The corporation has emphasized that such agreements help protect the rights and welfare of recruited professionals while ensuring compliance with the labor standards of host countries.
Saudi Arabia remains one of the largest destinations for Pakistani expatriate workers, including a substantial number employed in the medical and healthcare sectors.
The MoU is expected to pave way for further collaboration, not only in healthcare recruitment but also in broader areas of workforce development and bilateral economic exchange.
