Pakistan rescues 71 nationals stranded in Lebanon, Syria

Islamabad (TDI): A special flight of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) transported 71 Pakistani nationals stranded in Lebanon from Damascus to Karachi early on Wednesday, media reports said.

A day earlier, the foreign office stated that a special flight carrying Pakistani nationals evacuated from Lebanon will arrive in Karachi early tomorrow (Wednesday) morning.

According to a statement of the Foreign office, the flight carries sixty seven Pakistani nationals repatriated from Lebanon who travelled to Damascus, Syria by road before being airlifted to Pakistan.

Four Pakistanis from Syria are also being evacuated with this flight, it added.

The security, transport and food arrangements were made by the Pakistan Embassy in Lebanon and Syria to ensure incident-free evacuation through Lebanon, it further said.

Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori, Federal Minister Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, and Sindh Industries Minister Jam Ikramullah Dharejo welcome the evacuees upon their arrival at the airport.

According to daily, The News, Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori highlighted the government’s commitment to ensuring the safe return of Pakistanis from Lebanon, assuring that the remaining Pakistanis stranded in Lebanon would also be repatriated soon.

He also appreciated the timely actions of the embassies in facilitating the swift return of the Pakistanis.

Federal Minister Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, speaking at Karachi Airport, said that it was a challenging task, and appreciated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for taking responsibility.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs had activated its Crisis Management Unit (CMU) as situation in the Middle East turned worse after escalation and increasing Israeli raids in Lebanon.
