Pakistan Reaffirms Resolve to Combat Terrorism, Pays Tribute to Victims

Pakistan Summons Indian Envoy Over Killing of Two Civilians in Unprovoked Firing

Islamabad (TDI): Pakistan has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to combating terrorism as the world observes the International Day of Remembrance of and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism, offering honors to those who lost their lives in the fight against terrorism and recognizing the sacrifices of victims’ families.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the day was not only an occasion for remembrance but also an opportunity to reflect on the human cost of terrorism and renew the global commitment to combating the menace.

The Foreign Office said Pakistan had made unprecedented sacrifices in terms of both human lives and economic losses in its fight against terrorism. According to the statement, more than 90,000 Pakistanis have lost their lives, while the country has suffered economic losses of more than $150 billion in the ongoing fight against terrorism.

It said terrorism had become increasingly multifaceted, with terrorist groups exploiting emerging technologies and cyberspace to expand their reach and facilitate increasingly sophisticated and lethal attacks. The Foreign Office said Pakistan had also faced disinformation and misinformation campaigns, what it described as hydro-terrorism, as well as extraterritorial assassination campaigns.

The statement noted that 2025 was among the deadliest years Pakistan had experienced in more than a decade, with the country continuing to face attacks targeting civilians and security personnel.

It said that much of the violence was planned, financed and directed from sanctuaries across the border, with the involvement of hostile elements from neighbouring countries. The attacks, the statement said, have targeted worshippers, children, women and security personnel without distinction.

Despite these challenges, the Foreign Office reiterated that Pakistan remained determined to combat terrorism “in all its forms and manifestations.”

The statement also used the occasion to express solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, saying they continue to face systemic state repression by India.

“This includes draconian laws, enforced disappearances and arbitrary detention, and accused India of continuing violations of fundamental human rights”, the statement added.

The Foreign Office said the people of Kashmir remained committed to the demand for their UN-mandated right to self-determination.

The Foreign Office also expressed solidarity with the Palestinian people, saying that despite ceasefire efforts and diplomatic initiatives that had allowed some humanitarian relief, Palestinians, particularly children, women and elderly people, continued to face severe human rights violations. It said the Palestinian people were also being denied their fundamental right to self-determination.

The statement argued that the international community must recognize the broader lessons of conflicts around the world, saying foreign occupation, unresolved conflicts and denial of self-determination can be exploited by extremists and terrorist groups.

Pakistan called on the international community to support victims and survivors of terrorism across the world without discrimination. It also urged greater international cooperation and dialogue to counter terrorism in an objective, impartial and consistent manner, without double standards.

The Foreign Office said collective efforts were essential to building a more peaceful world and ensuring a safer future for coming generations.
