Pakistan, Poland unveil logo to commemorate diplomatic ties

Islamabad, 6 December 2022 (TDI): Additional Secretary Foreign Office of Pakistan, Syrus Sajjad Qazi met with the Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Ambassador Witold Sokow on Tuesday.

Both diplomats discussed bilateral ties and explored areas to cooperate on mutual grounds. Moreover, both of them exchanged views on bilateral and regional issues.

In addition to that, the two also unveiled the logo for commemorating 60 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Foreign Office reported. Both will commemorate the establishment of diplomatic relations on 16 December.

Pakistan-Poland Diplomatic relations

The diplomatic relations between the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the Republic of Poland were established on 16 December 1962 when Poland first opened their Embassy in Karachi, the Capital of Pakistan at that time.

Pakistan holds defense ties and political and economic cooperation with Poland. Both countries have a long historical bond and the current relations are also stable and fluid.

It opened Embassy in Warsaw in 1969. Poland maintains a cultural Consulate-General in Karachi and an honorary Consulate-General in Lahore.

The diplomatic relations between the two countries grew when the President of Pakistan, Pervez Musharraf visited Poland in 2007. Later, the Foreign Ministers of both countries met in Warsaw in 2010 and in Islamabad in 2011.

Engagements of the Speakers of Parliament of both countries were also held many times. Both countries also hold Pakistan-Poland bilateral consultations to discuss bilateral ties, trade, and investment.

Poland also provided aid to the earthquake affectees of Pakistan in 2005. They sent military engineers, geological scientists, and other possible help to rescue people and helped to rebuild the earthquake-affected cities.

The two countries also explored areas for economic cooperation throughout their relations. Energy and exploration of natural resources are the main sectors in which the two of them collaborated.

In the 1970s, Pakistan and Poland signed the first trade agreement about the avoidance of double taxation and later that a maritime trade agreement.

After the three-day state visit of Pakistan’s President to Poland, the trade relations intensified and according to the Polish government the trade turnover crossed the threshold of 500 million Euros in 2018 and it is on an upward trajectory.
