Pakistan Independence Day Celebrated in Canada

Ottawa, 15 August 2024 (TDI): The flag-hoisting ceremonies to celebrate Pakistan’s Independence Day were organized at the Pakistan High Commission in Ottawa, and all three consulates in Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal.

Acting High Commissioner Faisal Kakar unfurled Pakistan’s flag with the national anthem in the backdrop.

A large number of Pakistani diaspora and Canadian citizens of Pakistan origin attended the ceremony.

On this occasion, Kakar underlined the historical importance of the day, acknowledged the contributions being made by the Pakistani Canadian community and apprised them of the recent steps being taken by Pakistan’s government to facilitate overseas Pakistanis.

He stressed on the need for unity and harmony among the Pakistani diaspora and urged them to redouble their efforts for the socio-economic development and prosperity of their motherland.

He said that despite different challenges and odds, Pakistan has achieved remarkable progress in the past years.

The envoy underlined that this auspicious day symbolizes the spirit and resilience of the Pakistani nation, reminding us of the sacrifices made by the nation’s forefathers in their struggle for freedom.

It highlights our responsibility to uphold the ideals of freedom and signifies our collective journey towards prosperity, progress, and national unity, he added.

He drew the attention of the global community to the plight of oppressed people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir while reaffirming Islamabad’s support of their legitimate struggle for the right to self-determination.

“Pakistan and Canada are long-standing partners with deep relations between our people. Today, Canada is home to over half a million Canadians of Pakistani origin who are deeply woven together and make the country a more diverse, inclusive, and prosperous place, he added.

The event also featured a cake-cutting symbolizing unity and progress.

Besides this event, the Pakistani diaspora also arranged a series of events marking the Independence Day of the nation.
