Islamabad, 14 September 2023 (TDI): The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan convened the inaugural meeting of the ‘Joint Committee’ to initiate the implementation of the Green Framework Engagement between Pakistan and Denmark on Thursday.
Ambassador Syed Haider Shah, Additional Secretary (UN&ED), chaired the committee meeting.
Ambassador Jakob Linulf from the Embassy of Denmark in Islamabad headed the Danish delegation.
The Joint Committee was also attended by representatives from Pakistan’s pertinent technical Ministries and Departments, including those at the provincial level.
Both sides expressed their appreciation for the Green Framework Engagement and committed to taking tangible actions to translate it into practical collaboration, with a specific focus on areas such as Energy Efficiency, Green Transition, and Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation.
Pakistan and Denmark entered into an agreement known as the Green Framework Engagement, to enhance collaboration in the realm of green and sustainable development in August 2022.
The agreement was officially signed by Pakistan’s Ambassador to Denmark, Ahmad Farooq, and Denmark’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Lis Rosenholm.

Following the signing of the Agreement, a joint Action Plan was subsequently completed and finalized in June 2023.
The implementation of this Framework and the associated Action Plan would also make a significant contribution to Pakistan’s endeavours to attain the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Green Framework Engagement is rooted in the common interests, ambitious goals, and shared visions of both nations for a green and sustainable future for the planet which also includes a strong emphasis on private sector involvement and the development of public-private partnerships.

Pakistan is eager to leverage Danish expertise to enhance its capacity to address the consequences of Climate Change.
Denmark is currently extending its support to Pakistan through the Danish Energy Transition Initiative (DETI), which entails offering technical assistance to the Ministry of Energy which primarily focuses on the development of long-term energy scenarios and the seamless integration of renewable energy sources into the existing energy grid.
