Pakistan, Azerbaijan to enhance bilateral trade

Islamabad, 12 September 2023 (TDI): The Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Pakistan, Khazar Farhadov on Tuesday called on the caretaker Federal Minister of Pakistan for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Mohammad Sami Saeed.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed matters of mutual interest and various ways of cooperation between the two countries.

The two sides discussed ways to cooperate in the fields of bilateral trade, energy, and economic sectors. In this vein, Minister Mohammad Sami Saeed also noted the positive momentum of Pakistan-Azerbaijan relations.

Likewise, he reiterated his commitment to further strengthen ties with a focus on various sectors such as trade, connectivity, energy, tourism, and information technology.

The Planning Minister also emphasized the importance of longstanding friendship between the two countries and reiterated the commitment to further strengthen the relationship.

It is noteworthy that Pakistan was one of the first countries to recognize Azerbajan’s independence in 1991. Furthermore, the Minister of Planning appreciated Azerbaijan’s support during the 2022 floods which badly affected Pakistan.

While Khazar Farhadov on his part informed the Minister of Planning that since 2022, direct flights between Azerbaijan and Pakistan have been very helpful in these relations.

In 2022, about 50,000 Pakistani tourists visited Azerbaijan, he said. The Government of Azerbaijan facilitates Pakistani tourists through an online visa, which takes three hours.

The Planning Minister appreciated the initiative and expressed his desire to explore opportunities for cooperation in the tourism sector.

The meeting was also attended by Azerbaijan’s Deputy Head of Mission, Tamerlan Khalilov, Chief of International Trade and Finance, Chief of Foreign Aid, and other senior officials of the Ministry of Planning.
