Islamabad, 30 December 2021 (TDI): On 29 December 2021, an official meeting between the Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, and the member of the British House of Lords, Lord Daniel Hannan, was held in Islamabad.
Both officials exchanged their views regarding economic, political, and trade relations with each other. They also committed to strengthening their partnership at various levels.
Official Remarks
Shah Mahmood Qureshi also mentioned that Pakistan and the United Kingdom are tactically linked. They maintain not only through historical chains but also share economic and political linkages. This is due to the presence of a large Pakistani diaspora community in the United Kingdom.
He said that Pakistan attaches its utmost importance to strengthening its strategic collaboration with the United Kingdom. It also includes a partnership agreement that has nurtured the roots of economic and trade aspects between the two states.
While mentioning the diplomatic relations, the Foreign Minister mentioned that Pakistan has enjoyed cordial diplomatic relations with the United Kingdom.
75 years of diplomatic relations
Furthermore, the two countries will celebrate 75 years of their diplomatic relations in the upcoming year. He also mentioned that Pakistan would celebrate the completion of 75 years in a befitting manner as it hopes to strengthen the ties to the maximum length.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi mentioned the positive role of the United Kingdom during the odd time of the global pandemic. He thanked the British community for its support to Pakistan for developmental purposes throughout the Covid-19 period.
Qureshi also highlighted the perspective of Pakistan on regional development, especially the unfolding developments in Afghanistan. The country highlighted the need for international cooperation in the near future.
The Foreign Minister and the member of the British House of Lords agreed to devise a joint working platform to formulate a strategy to further bilateral terms in multiple spheres. They highlighted the prospects of cooperation for the up-gradation of mutual matters and also to uplift the economy, trade, and political standards in an age of market economy.
