Islamabad, 16 June 2023 (TDI): The Second Round of Bilateral Political Consultations (BPC) between Pakistan and Belgium took place yesterday in Islamabad.
The agenda of the consultations was to lay the rock bed for the enhancement of bilateral relations between both states for the next year.
Delegations from both countries, consisting of high-level officials, were present at the meeting. Ambassador Muhammad Saleem, Additional Foreign Secretary for Europe, was leading the Pakistani delegation, while the Belgian delegation was led by Ambassador Jeroen Cooreman, Director General of Bilateral Affairs.
Every aspect of bilateral relations was discussed during the consultations, and new ways to uplift these relations were explored. Both delegations expressed their commitment to further strengthen and enhance bilateral cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, education, culture, and tourism.
Both countries also reaffirmed their support for each other in international forums and agreed to continue working closely together on global issues of mutual interest.

This year’s BPC holds special significance because, this year, both countries are celebrating the completion of 75 years of bilateral ties.
The BPC, coming on the heels of the completion of an official tour of Minister of State Hinna Rabbani Khar to Europe, can be seen as a part of the efforts Pakistan is making to foster strong bilateral ties with Europe.
Both sides also stressed the need for the continuation of these kinds of high-level meetings and agreed to make the Bilateral Political Consultation a regular annual event. The next BPC is expected to be held in Brussels next year.
The meeting ended on a positive note, with both sides agreeing to continue working closely together to achieve common goals and objectives.
The meeting was seen as a positive step towards the enhancement of bilateral relations between Pakistan and Belgium in the coming year.
