Pakistan's PM Heads to Qatar in Support After Israel's Doha Attack

Islamabad (TDI): Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, has left for Qatar on Thursday, where he will meet the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and express solidarity with the country after Israel struck residential areas in Doha on Tuesday.

A statement released by the Foreign Office said that this visit is in support of the security and sovereignty of Qatar and Pakistan’s desire for peace in the Middle East.

“In a gesture of solidarity and regional unity, following the recent Israeli cowardly airstrikes targeting residential areas in Doha, Prime Minister…, accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister…, will embark on a visit to Qatar…,” it read.

Right after the attack happened, condemning statements surfaced from Pakistani officials, including the Prime Minister and the DPM/FM, Ishaq Dar.

PM Sharif also spoke with the Qatari Emir on a phone call. “The unlawful and heinous bombing by Israeli forces is a dastardly act that reflects the mindset of its leadership, willing to go to any length in the blind pursuit of nefarious goals,” the premier said, according to a press release issued by the Prime Minister’s Office.

Writing on social media app X, Dar called the Israeli attacks on Qatar “illegal,” adding that the strikes are a setback for region’s peace. He also said that Pakistan has requested an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council.

Since the strikes, in which Israel’s targets were Hamas officials, Qatar has expressed its anger and has even hinted at retracting from Gaza mediation role. It also said that with these strikes, Israel has lost any chances it had for hostages release.

Qatar is also calling for a regional response to Israel’s actions while its Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, has urged action against Netanyahu for his “state terrorism.”
