Pakistan, Ethiopia Amp Up Trade and Investment Ties with New Joint Committee

Islamabad (TDI): Dr. Oumer Hussien Oba, Ambassador of Ethiopia, called on Pakistan’s Commerce Minister, Jam Kamal Khan, at the Ministry of Commerce, to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.

A key outcome of the meeting was the agreement to establish a Joint Trade Committee, in line with the bilateral trade agreement signed in 2023.

The proposed body is expected to provide a structured platform for addressing trade barriers, enhancing market access, and facilitating business-to-business engagement between Pakistan and Ethiopia.

The meeting focused on strengthening economic and diplomatic relations, with both sides engaging in detailed discussions on trade, investment, connectivity, tourism, and cultural exchanges.

Officials described the dialogue as constructive, reflecting a shared commitment to unlocking the untapped potential between the two countries.

Ambassador Dr. Oumer emphasized the urgent need to improve connectivity between the two nations, noting that logistical challenges remain a significant hurdle in expanding economic ties.

He expressed confidence that sustained engagement and institutional mechanisms like the Joint Trade Committee would pave the way for a more integrated and mutually beneficial partnership.
