Islamabad (TDI): Pakistan has unveiled a significant new educational initiative, announcing 500 scholarships for Bangladeshi students under the first phase of a broader program aimed at deepening academic and cultural ties between the two neighboring countries.
The scheme, officially titled the Allama Iqbal Scholarship in honor of the renowned poet and philosopher, will enable students from Bangladesh to pursue fully funded undergraduate degrees at various universities across Pakistan.
The opportunities cover institutions in major cities, offering placements that include tuition support and other academic benefits, with selection based on merit following entrance tests held in cities such as Dhaka, Chittagong, and Rajshahi under the oversight of the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.
The scholarships form part of a larger effort to strengthen bilateral relations in the realms of education and people-to-people exchange.
The first phase focuses on 500 students but is expected to pave the way for expanded cooperation and additional opportunities in the future.
The program reflects a renewed engagement between Islamabad and Dhaka at a time of warming relations, with both governments keen to build bridges through educational collaboration.

Entry into the scholarship program was competitive, drawing a large number of applicants from across Bangladesh. Prospective candidates took part in entrance examinations administered by Pakistani educational authorities in late 2025.
The fully funded nature of the scholarships covers not only academic costs but also related living expenses, making study in Pakistan a viable option for talented young Bangladeshis seeking international academic experience.
Officials suggest that this step will provide Bangladeshi students with access to a diverse range of academic fields and help foster long-term understanding and cooperation between the two nations.
Pakistani authorities view the program as an investment in stronger bilateral ties, building on broader diplomatic and cultural exchanges that have gained momentum in recent months.
In conjunction with the scholarship announcement, developments in civil aviation between the two countries have signaled improved connectivity.
Dhaka’s national carrier has indicated plans to relaunch direct flight services to Pakistan after a hiatus of more than a decade, further facilitating travel for students, academics and families engaged in cross-border exchange.
