Kuwait City, 3 January 2022 (TDI): Covid Omicron outbreak pushed Kuwaitis living in Europe to return home. In this line, Kuwait Embassies around the world advised their nationals to come back home and protect themselves from the rise of new Covid-19 cases. 

Therefore, the Embassies of Kuwait in France, Germany, Spain, and Italy recommended their nationals go back to their homeland. Along these lines, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait gave advice to nationals to postpone their trips abroad. Especially those travelers heading Europe.

Omicron outbreak in Europe

The recent new Covid-19 variant, Omicron, drives records daily all over Europe. For example, France reported 179,807 new confirmed coronavirus cases. In addition, Germany’s cases jump in a spike of 45% of new omicron cases.

Not to mention that Italy reported its third record daily on Christmas with around 54,762 new patients. The same is happening with Spain and with all European countries. For those reasons, they are imposing up-to-minute responses and measures to contain the spread of the virus. 

To this matter, European countries established new restrictions regarding limits on large indoor and outdoor gatherings. In this regard, states such as Kuwait had taken decisions over their nationals living abroad. Particularly for those who are residents in Europe.

Kuwait advised their nationals to communicate with the consular services through phone. This is because the unstable health situation can make them stuck during the re-imposition of lockdowns and travel restrictions.  

Kuwait’s National Health Situation

On the other hand, in Kuwait, for example, new Omicron cases haven’t been reported since December. Besides, the Minister of Health announced today that people aged 50 and over will have priority to receive a vaccination booster.

Therefore, they will not need an appointment. In addition, young people should also receive the bost of the vaccine. However, they must make their appointment first for an effective procedure.

Finally, the Spokesman of the Ministry of Health explained the already implemented process to get a booster jab. Likewise, he mentioned that medical centers such as Jaber Bridge, Mishref, among others countrywide, are available for Kuwaitis.
