Muscat, 28 September 2021 (TDI): The Foreign Minister of Oman, Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, represented his country in the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly. In his address, he deliberated upon various issues. He also congratulated Abdulla Shahid on assuming the role as President of the seventy-sixth session of the United Nations General Assembly.
In his address, he talked about unforeseen challenges and crises faced by the world. The Pandemic of Covid-19 is one such crisis. The Minister underscored how his government remained undeterred in the face of such a challenge by launching a national immunization campaign and preventive measures to eliminate the virus. Consequently, the country was able to bounce back without much economic and social loss. He emphasized the need for a consolidated effort by the international community for equitable inoculation to eradicate the virus. He also appreciated the efforts of the frontline workers for their tremendous efforts to save humanity.
Badr Albusaidi stated that his country’s foreign policy was centered on non-interference, cooperation, respect for international law, and friendliness. The country believes in the harmony and interconnectivity of the world. Hence, it has made an effort to maintain friendly relations with other states, which is evident from Oman’s support for the Al-Ula summit and reconciliation efforts by Kuwait. In addition to that, he enunciated his country’s support for the resolution of just Palestinian cause and the Yemeni crisis. On Afghanistan, he said that Oman wishes that Afghan parties will work together to reinstate peace in the country.
The Foreign Minister conveyed his country’s stance on terrorism by condemning it. He said that Oman calls for an end to threats that target the international maritime trade. Discussion on sustainable development, climate change, the role of women were also part of his address.
