Muscat, 1 October 2021 (TDI): The Permanent Representative of Oman to the United Nations and International Organizations in Geneva, Idris bin Abdulrahman Al-Khanjari addressed the high-level panel. The occasion was the celebration of the tenth anniversary of the United Nations Declaration on Human Rights Education and Training. The celebration was held on the sidelines of the 48th session of the Human Rights Council. Oman’s representative participated through video communication.
The representative talked about the promotion and advancement of human rights across the world. He stated that human rights principles are an integral pillar of human societies and Oman is cognizant of the fact. The country has worked to raise awareness for human rights in society by inculcating them in the country’s policies. Human rights generate positivity in society and empower individuals. Culture and norms of adherence to human rights represent a healthy society.
Idris bin Abdulrahman Al-Khanjari stated that the Sultan of Oman has always laid a great emphasis on human rights and believes human beings to be the essence of the political process. Oman has introduced policies at the national level to ensure the rights of citizens and residents of Oman. In addition to that, he said that the country is working with the National Human Rights Committee, United Nations programs, specialized international organizations, and civil society institutions for the cause.
