Doha, 11 August 2021 (TDI): The next round of peace talks resumed on August 10th in Doha, Qatar. On Tuesday, Abdullah Abdullah, Chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation, attended an international meeting to address escalating violence in Afghanistan.
Representatives from China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, the United Nations, and the European Union also attended the meeting.
During the meeting, all participants agreed that Afghanistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity must be preserved. They also reached a consensus on a ceasefire and the formation of a coalition government.
Today, representatives from China, the United States, Russia, and Pakistan will express their concerns about Afghanistan in Doha.
The current situation can only be resolved with the assistance of regional and international actors as well as the genuine commitment to peace by all parties.
